Driving to Košice
Košice apartments with free parking
How the city’s paid parking zones work, what they cost, and how to avoid the hassle altogether.
Parking in central Košice is mostly paid: the Old Town is covered by the city’s regulated parking zone, and the central A1 and A2 tariff zones are charged Monday to Saturday, 24 hours a day. If you are driving, the simplest option is accommodation with its own parking space — otherwise budget for parking fees and check the signs carefully, because some bays are reserved for residents.
How the parking zones work
On-street parking is managed by the city under its regulation on temporary parking (VZN no. 241) and operated through parking.kosice.sk. Each bay belongs to a tariff zone shown on the signs:
| Zone | Where / what | Charged |
|---|---|---|
| A1 | Mixed bays in the central zone — higher tariff | Mon–Sat, 00:00–24:00 |
| A2 | Mixed bays in the central zone — lower tariff | Mon–Sat, 00:00–24:00 |
| BN | Mixed bays in residential areas | Mon–Fri, 07:30–18:00 |
| B | Resident bays | Every day 07:30–16:00, max 4 hours a day for visitors; otherwise residents and permit holders only |
| N | General visitor car parks | Mon–Fri, 07:30–18:00 |
Outside the charging hours — including Sundays and public holidays — mixed and visitor bays are free. Resident (B) bays are the exception: they are charged every day, and outside the visitor window you may not park there at all.
What it costs (2026)
Prices per hour from the official price list valid from 1 March 2026, without a residents’ bonus card:
| Zone | Parking machine | App | SMS |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | €3.00 (max €24 / 24 h) | €2.70 | €3.30 |
| A2 | €2.00 (max €16 / 24 h) | €1.80 | €2.20 |
| BN | €1.00 (max €6 / 24 h) | €0.90 | €1.10 |
| N | €0.60 (max €3 / 24 h) | €0.54 | €0.66 |
A ticket for a higher zone also covers the lower ones: an A1 ticket is valid in A1, A2, BN and N bays.
How to pay
- Parking machines take cards everywhere and coins in roughly a third of machines. The minimum is 30 minutes.
- Apps are 10% cheaper than the base price (the app provider may add its own fee), and some let you pay for as little as 15 minutes and extend by the minute. The supported apps are listed on parking.kosice.sk.
- SMS: text
KE A1 YOURPLATE(with your zone code) to 2200 for a 30-minute ticket, or add “D” to the zone code for a day ticket. This only works from Slovak mobile networks, so most foreign visitors should use a machine or an app. - There is no paper ticket to display — payment is linked to your number plate. Pay as soon as you park.
- Staying several days? The operator suggests checking its 5-day zone pass, which can work out cheaper.
Tips for drivers
- Hlavná Street is a pedestrian zone. Don’t rely on dropping luggage right outside an Old Town address — ask your host where to stop.
- Read the sign, not the map. Zone boundaries and resident-only bays are marked on the street; that is what counts.
- Saturdays are charged in A1 and A2 — the free period only starts on Sunday.
- Big events change everything. On Peace Marathon day in October and during the December Christmas market, central roads close or fill up — park once and walk.
- Arriving late? Choose somewhere with self check-in and a dedicated space, so you are not hunting for a bay at midnight.
